These new charging points join the network of 54 points for electric vehicles that are already operational at Ferrocarrils tourist facilities
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has put 24 new charging points for electric vehicles into service at the Monistrol Vila del Cremallera de Montserrat station car park. The new chargers are located on the ground floor of the car park. 2 super-fast 400kW charging points, 6 super-fast 200kW charging points and 16 semi-fast 22kW charging points have been installed.
These 24 new charging points join the network of 54 points for electric vehicles that are already operational in Ferrocarrils tourist operations, bringing the total to 78 active. As for tourist transport, the 24 on the Montserrat Rack Railway must be supplemented by the 14 on the Núria Rack Railway (10 in the Queralbs station car park and 4 in the Ribes Vila station) and the 4 in the Pobla de Lillet car park of the Tren del Ciment. In the ski and mountain resorts, there are 4 in service in La Molina, 6 in Vallter, 6 also in Espot, 4 in Port Ainé and 10 in Boí Taüll. There are 6 more in the Montsec Astronomical Park.
Among all the charging points operational to date in the FGC Turisme facilities, 3,836 electric vehicle recharges have been carried out. This corresponds to a consumption of 67,609.69 kW and a saving in emissions of 78.43 tons of CO2.
The network of charging points for electric vehicles in the FGC Turisme facilities will be expanded to 114 points throughout 2025, 76 of semi-fast charging of 40 kW and 38 of fast charging between 120 kW and 400 kW depending on the power availability of each location.
The action is part of the Electric Vehicle Promotion Plan 2025-2030, promoted by the Government and which aims to accelerate the implementation of electrified vehicles in Catalonia, achieving 180,000 new registrations of electrified vehicles, the creation of 9,000 new charging points owned by the Generalitat and the saving of 470,000 tons of CO2.
Promotion of sustainable mobility
Promoting sustainable mobility is one of the lines of action of the FGC Turisme Climate Action Plan, which includes a set of measures to reduce the environmental impact of the company’s activities. The plan develops Ferrocarrils’ corporate strategy, which has identified climate change and the preservation of natural capital as some of the main challenges facing 2030 and the principle of sustainability as one of the company’s four strategic axes.
The Monistrol Vila car park is one of the access points for people who want to reach Montserrat with sustainable transport, the Rack Railway, which is also the only one that reaches the center of the Sanctuary. The Montserrat operation of FGC Turisme (which includes the Rack Railway and Funiculars of Sant Joan and Santa Cova) also has the ISO 14001 environmental certificate that accredits its commitment to protecting the environment with the implementation of its Environmental Management System. In the area of sustainability, it is also worth noting that the Rack Railway and Funiculars of Montserrat are powered by certified energy that is 100% guaranteed to be of renewable origin.
