ACCESSIBILITY

At Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, we are firmly committed to making our railway and natural heritage accessible to everyone. For this reason, we work continuously to remove barriers and offer services that ensure the independence and comfort of people with limited mobility.

Accessibility from the Moment You Arrive

The accessible experience begins the moment you arrive at our destinations:

  • Reserved parking: The Montserrat Rack Railway and Funicular stations, the Núria Rack Railway, and the Cement Train all have parking spaces reserved exclusively for people with limited mobility.
  • Easy and secure access: These parking spaces are strategically located to provide direct, hassle-free access to our facilities.

Vertical Movement and Mobility

We have equipped our spaces with solutions to facilitate movement between different levels:

  • Accessible elevators: In Montserrat, the Monistrol Vila and Montserrat Monastery stations of the Cremallera railway have elevators accessible from all entrances.
  • Connection between services: We have special elevators that make it easy to get to the funicular area, ensuring seamless connectivity.

Accessible Trains and Funiculars

Our rolling stock is designed to provide a barrier-free journey:

  • Access platforms: To facilitate boarding and alighting from trains, the Montserrat and Núria rack-railway trains are equipped with adapted platforms.
  • The Sant Joan Funicular is 100% accessible: This mode of transportation is a model of inclusion. It is fully accessible at both its stations and in its cars, and features ramps that make the service accessible to all users.

Web Accessibility

The FGC website has been built with the aim of facilitating universal access for all people who consult it, regardless of their physical, sensory or intellectual abilities, and of the technical context in which they use it (type of device, software, connection speed, environmental conditions, etc.).

For this reason, we work with the objective of adapting the entire website to the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), in order to remove the barriers that make access to information and communication difficult. These recommendations are set out in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.1.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat’s commitment is to achieve the “Triple-A” (AAA) level of compliance, as required of public administrations by European and national legislation.

Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2016 establishes the requirements imposed on Member States to ensure that all public sector websites and mobile applications, regardless of the device used to access them, comply with the accessibility requirements set out in the EN 301 549 v2.1.2 standard (August 2018), which defines accessibility requirements suitable for the public procurement of ICT products and services in Europe.

The EN 301 549 v2.1.2 standard is mainly based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, from August 2018. Specifically, compliance with level AAA is required. However, the standard also includes other additional, mandatory and conditional requirements.

The directive is mandatory, but it is not directly applicable; therefore, at national level, a Royal Decree has been developed to establish its scope and minimum requirements. The national transposition is Royal Decree 1112/2018, of 7 September, on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications for public sector bodies.
