Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) today presented the new Turistren Passport at the B-Travel sustainable tourism fair. This new digital tool aims to encourage the discovery of the country’s natural and railway heritage through the company’s historic trains, while simultaneously boosting the region’s economic activity.

Advantages and digital operation

The Turistren Passport, which will be operational from April, brings together for the first time four of the most emblematic tourist transports in the network: the Montserrat Rack Railway, the Núria Rack Railway, the Tren dels Llacs and the Tren del Ciment.

The system is entirely digital and very simple: when purchasing a ticket for any of these four trains, the user will receive an email with a link to register and obtain their passport. From the first trip onward, journeys will be stamped digitally, and users will receive discounts of up to 20% on subsequent trips. Furthermore, those explorers who complete all four journeys before December 31, 2027, will receive a commemorative gift and be entered into a drawing for a special prize.

A Journey through history and nature

Under the Turistren brand, FGC TURISME allows you to rediscover unique railway and landscape gems:

  • Montserrat Rack Railway and Funiculars (Bages) and Núria Rack Railway (Ripollès): iconic landmarks of mountain and spirituality with decades of history.
  • Tren del Ciment (Berguedà): runs from March 28 to November 1, and this year will offer more services to celebrate the Gaudí Year, facilitating visits to the Artigas Gardens.
  • Tren dels Llacs (Lleida): operates from April 11 to October 31, offering a spectacular journey between the Lleida Plain and the Pre-Pyrenees through 40 tunnels and 75 bridges.
  • The Granota Train (Vallès Occidental): a historic railway gem built in the post-war period that ran for more than 50 years, will once again connect the stations of Terrassa and Sabadell with les Planes on the first of each month from May 3rd until December 6th (except July and August).

With this launch, FGC TURISME consolidates the Turistren brand, which together with the mountain resorts and the Montsec Astronomical Park, serves an average of 2.2 million people each year, 1 million of whom are involved in the winter-summer activity of the mountain resorts and 1.2 million of whom are involved in tourist trains and PAM (Parc Astronòmic del Montsec).
