The Tren dels Llacs, which connects Lleida with Pobla de Segur, has started its circulation for the 2025 season today, where the main novelty is the incorporation of a tourist guide on board the train who will explain to users all the details of the route and the landscape as well as the history of this tourist train managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), with the support of the Diputació de Lleida and the Territorial Mobility Authority of Lleida.
The president of Ferrocarrils, Carles Ruiz Novella, made the inaugural trip, which was fully booked, of this new season today accompanied by the director of FGC Operadora, Oriol Juncadella Fortuny; the manager of FGC Rail, Ramon Vall Canosa; the deputy director of Strategy and Business of FGC Turisme, David Ros Sánchez; the director of territorial services of the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition in the Alt Pirineu and Aran, Jordi Mas Ortega, and the head of the Lleida-La Pobla de Segur line, Emili Monsó Planes. Once in La Pobla de Segur, he was received by the mayor, Marc Baró Bernaduca. With him they got to know some of the attractions that people can visit in the area.
For Ruiz, “as a mobility company we bring the territory together. We do it for leisure, to study, to work but also to recover historical memory and to make the territory known through the railway. In this case we do it with an old train that allows, on the one hand, to enjoy a different journey and, on the other, to get to know landscapes and many places in the territory where there is much to see“.
The president of FGC highlighted the new feature incorporated this year, the guided tour, which allows “to show the route from Lleida to the Pre-Pyrenees, highlighting the different attractions and points of interest that can be seen along the route“.
The Tren dels Llacs, which will run every Saturday until October 25, allows users to enjoy the natural beauty from the plain of Lleida to the Pre-Pyrenees without getting off the train. To enjoy this experience, you can choose to travel with the Tren Històric train, with its classic charm, or with the Tren Panoramic, which has large windows for a complete view of the landscape.
Calendar and route
For this 2025, the Tren dels Llacs has 27 trips planned: the Tren Històric will make 23 trips and will be every Saturday from today, April 26, and until July 12, and will circulate again from August 16 to October 25. And the Tren Panoramic will make 4 trips, on July 19 and 26, and on August 2 and 9.
The Tren dels Llacs runs along the banks of the Segre and Noguera Pallaresa rivers, from Lleida to La Pobla de Segur. It crosses the regions of Segrià, Noguera and the Montsec mountain area until it reaches the heart of Pallars Jussà, passing through spectacular landscapes.
Once it leaves the Segre River behind, it becomes part of the Noguera Pallaresa River basin, where you can see the reservoirs and Montsec and ends the route in La Pobla de Segur. During the journey, which takes approximately two hours and is 89 kilometers long, the Tren dels Llacs crosses 4 lakes, 40 tunnels and 75 bridges, offering passengers unique panoramic views.
During the route, you can request the optional stop in Tremp i Cellers, or do the entire route to La Pobla de Segur.
Complementary activities in the area
Once you reach La Pobla de Segur, visitors have several options for exploring the town.
