The historic Tren Granota of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has started the 2025 season today with the first of the six circulations that it will offer until the end of the year. The president of FGC, Carles Ruiz Novella, accompanied by the director of FGC Operadora, Oriol Juncadella Fortuny, and the director of Organization and People, Francesc Furné Jardí, has made the inaugural journey of this emblematic train, which is part of the company’s historical heritage fund.

The president of Ferrocarrils has highlighted, precisely, this task that the company does to keep railway history alive: “With the Granota Train what we are doing is preserving and disseminating the railway past and the history of what the railway has been in our country and the history of FGC itself, a company that has been built from the union of many companies”. “In addition, we offer the opportunity to take a route that is common on the Vallès line but with a train that is driven very differently, also taking care that it is in very good condition,” he added.

The Granota Train, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2023, was built in the middle of the last century in the old Sarrià workshops of FGC. It was in service on the Vallès line between 1944 and 1996 and was colloquially nicknamed by passengers as the Granota Train for its colors and its characteristic headlights on the front. In June 1996 it made its last run and 27 years later, in 2023, FGC put it back into service as part of its tourist transport offer.

With the return to circulation of the Tren Granota, Ferrocarrils offers all citizens the experience of traveling on an emblematic train in the history of the railway in Catalonia.
