Montserrat Natural Park
Montserrat Natural Park
Montserrat is the most representative mountain in Catalonia and, in fact, thanks to its surprising characteristics, it has become one of the Catalan symbols. Its peculiar morphology, its natural park and its millenary tradition make it an incomparable reference object of millions of visitors from around the world.
The Montserrat massif is unique and unmatched. Its rounded peaks, called “needles”, make up the most characteristic and spectacular feature of its mountain range. At the highest peak of the Montserrat Mountain, is the top of Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), from where you can admire a wonderful panoramic view from the Pyrenees to the sea and on clear days, you can even see the island of Majorca.
As for the fauna of the Park, today you can find typically Mediterranean species that coexist, in certain areas of the mountains, with some of a Central European tendency. In terms of flora, the Montserrat mountain is rich, above all, in oak forests and, in addition, you can find some populations of deciduous trees (such as oak or yew).
