Home » The Tren Granota is running again: six opportunities to travel back in time this season

The Tren Granota, operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), has now begun its new season, offering passengers a unique experience that combines history, culture and nature through Catalonia’s railway heritage. This historic train, part of the 400 series and built in the post-war period, was designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2023.

Timetable and service schedule for 2026

To help you plan your visit, the service will run its usual route between Les Planes, Terrassa and Sabadell stations on the first Sunday of every month (except in July and August). The confirmed dates for the service until the end of the year are:

  • 7 June
  • 6 September
  • 4 October
  • 1 November
  • 6 December

An experience that goes beyond the journey itself

Travelling on the Tren Granota – so named for its distinctive colours and headlights – allows passengers to experience mid-20th-century travel whilst exploring the region. The journey is notable for:

  • Architectural heritage: the line connects Modernist-style stations such as Les Planes and Sant Quirze del Vallès.
  • Natural surroundings: the route passes through the Serra de Collserola, an ideal spot for outdoor activities.
  • Industrial heritage: in Terrassa, the trip can be rounded off with a visit to the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC), housed in a former textile factory.

Practical information for passengers

Access to the Tren Granota is straightforward and accessible to everyone. Passengers can travel using an integrated ticket or an FGC ticket, with the fare depending on the zones travelled between the point of departure and the destination. Full details of specific timetables and prices can be found directly on the Turistren website.

With this initiative, FGC Turisme reaffirms its commitment to preserving railway heritage, inviting younger generations to discover the rolling stock that played a key role in the modernisation of the Vallès lines.
