The Tren del Ciment is a railway line that historically linked the old Asland cement factory in Castellar de n’Hug to Guardiola de Berguedà, from where the narrow-gauge railway provided connections to Berga and Manresa.

With a history stretching back more than 100 years, this vintage railway and its diesel locomotive take visitors on a 3.5-kilometre journey that lasts around 20 minutes. The train has four carriages, each of which holds 25 passengers.

The Tren del Ciment has a new car park with 75 spaces for vehicles and two bus spaces located at La Pobla de Lillet station, where users can access it directly without having to cross the B-402 road, where the old parking space was.

Stops with tourist attractions

The Tren del Ciment stops at four stations: La Pobla de Lillet, La Pobla Centre, Jardins Artigas and Museu del Ciment-Castellar de n’Hug. At each station, passengers can get out and discover new tourist attractions.

The journey begins in La Pobla de Lillet, where you can visit the exhibition on “Secondary, Industrial and Tourist Railways in Vall del Llobregat” and admire (and learn about) characteristic equipment from the era of narrow-gauge railways, mining trains and industrial activity in the valley.

The second stop is at La Pobla Centre, which offers a range of attractions such as Pont Vell, the oldest bridge across the River Llobregat; the town’s historic quarter; the Church of Santa María del Lillet; the Romanesque Monastery of Santa Maria del Lillet, built in the ninth century; Lillet Castle; the Rotonda (rotunda) of Sant Miquel; and the mountains of Serra de Catllaràs, which is home to the Santuari (shrine) of Falgars.

The Tren del Ciment’s third stop is Jardins Artigas: stunning landscaped gardens that were designed by Antoni Gaudí at the turn of the twentieth century. It is a naturalistic creation, where the vegetation, water and stone take centre stage. The gardens were a gesture of thanks from the architect to the Artigas family, with whom he stayed while working on the construction of Xalet del Catllaràs (a building that housed the engineers and miners who extracted coal for the Asland cement factory).

The train’s final stop is the Museu de Ciment (Cement Museum) at the old Asland cement factory in Clot del Moro, in the municipality of Castellar de n’Hug. The Modernist building stands out for its Catalan-style vaulted ceilings and structures made out of wrought iron.
